What is AutoCAD LT ?
Autocad Lt 2011 is the 2D design and drafting software used by design professionals who require full DWG file format compatibility but do not require 3D or need to customize their software through automation.

What is New in AutoCad
AutoCAD 2011 software lets you design, visualize, and document your ideas clearly and efficiently. Autodesk redesigned the user interface of AutoCAD 2011 software to accelerate tasks, allow commands to be easily found, and help rapidly train new users.

Autocad Lt 2011 from Autodesk helps customers in the building, manufacturing, infrastructure, digital media, and wireless data services fields increase the value of their digital design data and improve efficiencies across their entire project lifecycle management processes.

AutoCad LT (lite version) is a great example of the 80/20 rule. You get 80%+ of the functionality for 20% of the cost. The vast majority of folk who use the full version of AutoCAD don’t even use the 3D functionality.The LT edition of AutoCad is sufficient for 95% of firms


Windows 7 Support for AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT Applies to: AutoCAD® 2011 AutoCAD LT® 2011 Issue You want to know if you can run AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT® on Microsoft Windows 7. Solution Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of AutoCAD® 2011 and AutoCAD® LT® 2011 are compatible with and supported on Microsoft Windows® 7.

Autodesk does not officially support 2009 and older versions of AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT on Windows 7. If you choose to run older versions of AutoCAD on the Windows 7 operating system, you may opt to use Windows compatibility mode.

There are some known minor limitations of AutoCAD LT 2011 on Windows 7.

AutoCAD® and all AutoCAD-based vertical products:
Infocenter balloons sometimes display blank
Dragging Ribbon tabs sometimes crashes the product
Encrypted files fail to open and save on Windows 7
Open files do not appear on Windows 7 Jumplist
Export to Impression functionality will not work because Autodesk
Impression is not supported on Windows 7



If you use third-party add-ons to AutoCAD, check with their software manufacturers to discover whether they are compliant with Windows 7. You may also ask manufacturers of your printer/plotter, mouse, or digitizer whether you need to update your drivers for these devices.

If you migrate to Windows 7, Autodesk recommends that you reinstall your AutoCAD software. This will not cause any licensing problems, but will help ensure that your AutoCAD software runs properly. Moving to Windows 7 will not jeopardize your AutoCAD customizations. When you reinstall AutoCAD, simply move your customizations over to the new installation.

Ribbon
With the AutoCAD LT ribbon interface, overall drafting productivity is increased as the number of steps to reach a command is decreased. The ribbon interface presents command options in a concise visual format. Allowing you to quickly select commands based on the work you’re doing . Moving between applications is now quick and intuitive. The ribbon is both customizable and expandable so that it can be optimized for each user and meet each company’s standards.

ViewCube and SteeringWheels
The ViewCube is an interactive Autocad tool used to rotate and orient any solid or surface model in AutoCAD. Selecting a face, edge, or corner of the cube brings the model quickly to that predefined orientation. Clicking and holding the ViewCube allows the model to be freely roated in any direction. Since the cube is in a fixed location on the screen, it provides at-a-glance orientation. The ViewCube will be introduced in all Autodesk products as a common tool for working with 3D models.
In addition to allowing quick access to the orbit command, the new SteeringWheels™ tool allows quick access to the pan, center, and zoom commands. The SteeringWheels is highly customizable so you can add walk through commands to help create and record a walk-through of your model

Menu Browser
Reviewing and working with several files is no longer a tedious and time-consuming process. The new menu browser interface allows you to browse files and examine thumbnail images and provides detailed information about file size and file creator. Plus, you can organize recently used files by name, date, or title.

Action Recorder
The new action recorder saves time and increases productivity by automating repetitive tasks without requiring the skill or assistance of a professional CAD manager. Users can quickly record a task, add text messages and requests for input, then quickly select and play back recorded files.

Layer Dialog
The new layer dialog makes creating and editing layer properties faster and less prone to error. Changes are instantly reflected in the drawing as they are made in the dialog. The manipulation of the dialog box has been simplified, and columns in the dialog can be individually resized so the contents of that column or its title are not truncated. Individual columns can be fixed in place so that the rest of the columns can be scrolled through and referenced to a fixed column such as the layer name.

CUI Changes
With AutoCAD 2011 the CUI file is replaced with the new CUIx format. A CUIx file is a package file format that helps to improve performance when working with the CUI Editor. The native DWG drawing file format for AutoCAD 2011 is not compatible with previous AutoCAD releases. AutoCAD 2011 can open drawing file formats from previous releases dating back to the 1980s with AutoCAD 2.x . In order to open AutoCAD 2011 files in previous releases, you will need to use the SAVE AS command and save it to the appropriate DWG file format or set your default Save format version in the Options.

Drawing File Format
AutoCAD 2011 introduces a new file format that offers improved save times, especially when saving files with lots of annotative objects, along with several new features.

Ribbon
The ribbon has been updated to provide greater flexibility, easier access to tools, and consistency across Autodesk applications. You can drag a ribbon panel off the ribbon to display it as a sticky panel. Sticky panels remain displayed, even when selecting a different tab, until you select the option to Return Panels to Ribbon. If you are new to the ribbon, this may be a major change for users.

Boot Camp
You can install AutoCAD LT® software on a Mac® computer on a Windows partition. The system must use Boot Camp® software to manage a dual OS configuration and meet the following minimum system requirements:
